Course Description: Year 1, The Bible and Ancient Thought, covers Ancient Greece and Rome and the Middle Ages (1200 BC to 1200 AD). Students will explore ancient Greece and Rome while contrasting them to God’s Word and the Biblical worldview. Students will study Genesis, Job, the Gospels, and Romans, along with books by Francis and Edith Schaeffer, while exploring the Greco-Roman world view through detailed studies of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, Plato’s Republic, and the Aneid of Virgil. Students will study the Middle Ages and the impact of the Church on the Roman Empire in Augustine’s City of God. Writing skills will be honed through classroom instruction and 12 essays assigned throughout the year. Students should be expected to work on assignments at home at least 4-7 hrs each week.

High School Credit: Students will receive 4 high school credits in: English – 1, History – 1, Bible/Apologetics/ Philosophy – 1, and Art/Music History/Appreciation – 1.
