November 19th-December 2nd
Happy Thanksgiving!  Only two lessons taught so that you can have some family time over the holiday!
If you have any questions or concerns, please note that I will be out of town and out of touch from Friday, November 21st until Sunday, November 30th.
Any Thanksgiving themed work that is sent home is optional.  Students can earn bonus stars.

October 15th – 21st
So proud of this class!  The class was focused and worked hard.  Once again they finished their lessons in enough time to play a subtraction math game.
This week, the students have a challenge to complete their 3 sessions of XTRAmath.org on 3 different days.  If they complete the sessions, they get to compete in a car race (toy car race) to win a prize.
In class we continued working on multiplication facts, subtraction with regrouping and word problems about comparing items.
HOMEWORK
  • Mixed Practice Lessons 29-32
  • Investigation 3
  • Timed Tests 29-32
  • Test 4
  • XTRAmath.org – 3 sessions on 3 different days
October 8th – 14th
The students were very excited to start multiplication yesterday!  The class worked on word problems, fractions, elapsed time and multiplication.  The students were so focused and eager to work that we were able to sneak in a game at the end of class.
HOMEWORK
  • Timed Tests 25-28
  • Lessons 25-28 Mixed Practice
  • XTRAmath.org – 3 times on 3 different days
October 1st – 7th
Lesson 21 introduced new geometry terms – radius and diameter of a circle.  Students were challenged drawing shapes with specific measurements, but they all were successful by the end of the lesson.  Lesson 23 continued with lines, segments, rays and angles.
Lesson 22 reviewed naming fractions shown, introduced terminology – numerator and denominator, and compared quarters, dimes, and nickels to a dollar to create fractions related to the dollar.
Lesson 24 focused on missing numbers in addition and subtraction problems.
HOMEWORK:
  • Timed Tests 21-24
  • Mixed Practice Lessons 21-24
  • Test 3
  • XTRAmath.org – 3 sessions on 3 different days
September 24th- September 30th
Please have your child bring a ruler to class on October 1st.  Thank you!
Yesterday we covered several different concepts:
  • Lesson 17 had the students adding columns of numbers with regrouping.
  • Lesson 18 focussed on reading scales – thermometers and speedometers.
  • Lesson 19 was reading the time on an analog clock using terms – half past, quarter after and quarter to.
  • Lesson 20 reviewed rounding to the nearest 10 and to the nearest dollar.
  • Investigation 2 will focus on Units of length and perimeter.  The Investigation was not covered in class.  It is an “at home” investigation.

August 27th – September 2nd

Today was an amazing first day in Saxon 4 Math!  The lessons mainly dealt with addition and missing addends.  We also touched on place value to the hundreds place.

In class, we covered lessons 1-4.

Students received:

  • Timed Tests Lessons 1-4 – Complete one  Timed Test per lesson.  Each Timed Test has a lesson number on the top of the page that corresponds to the lesson.  Parents. please correct.
  • Lessons 1-4 Mixed Practice Problems.  Use the book and complete all Mixed Practice problems for Lessons 1-4.  Students were given answer sheet paper to show work and write their answers on for each lesson.  If your child needs more space or has correction work, they may use paper from home.  Parents, it is your responsibility to grade the Mixed Practice Problems.  Students are to try to rework the missed problems and you should grade the reworked problems as well.  If your child needs help, please reach out via email.
  • Lessons 1-4 Lesson Practice Problems – completed in class.  These can be used to help with the mixed problems from the lessons.  These sheets can stay at home.
  • XTRAmath.org log-in sheet for weekly online math fact practice. – 3 sessions completed on 3 separate days.  I will have a report.  Nothing needs to be brought back for XTRAmath.org.

Students will receive stars for each of the following work that is returned completed fully:

  • Timed Tests for Lessons 1-4 – fully completed.  Please time how long it takes to fully complete the Timed Test and write the time on the top of the page where notated.
  • Lessons 1-4 Mixed Practice Problems – fully completed, graded and missed problems reworked.
  • XTRAmath.org – 3 sessions completed on 3 separate days.  I will have a report.  Nothing needs to be brought back for XTRAmath.org.

Since there are only three students in this class, I truly feel that the students have a wonderful opportunity to receive a lot of one-on-one attention.  This class is not a graded class, but I will send home tests periodically so that I can assess any areas of concern.  I am so excited to see how much your child will grow in math this year!

If you have any questions, please email me.  I will do my best to reply by the next business day.  I will be out of town this holiday weekend and may not be able to reply until Tuesday.

Have a blessed week!
