Optional Homework Due October 27:

There are three recipes to try this week from the chapters we discussed. They can be found on pages 81-82 in the chapter lesson pages (section just before student pages in the activity manual). If you want to try one with your student, the class would love a report back! This is OPTIONAL!

Optional: If your student is learning the geography songs at home, this week they can review (or begin to learn) the Northern and Southern border of the United States. If they come next week and are able to sing this WITHOUT help of the song, I will have a small prize for them. These are songs 25 (min 38:20) and song 26 (min. 39:33) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyfjM8NLgxo

Optional Homework Due October 6:
There were three ways the kids could try and receive a prize for next week (nothing big, just something for fun). OPTIONAL: They can do ANY (or all) of the following for one prize (not three prizes). :)
1. I made the mistake of not making enough copies of the pages we needed for our craft today (bummer!), so I have sent some of the kids home with the pages they need and others with nothing (you can print them) or just some of what they need. The craft is optional, and if they would like to do this at home this week, I told them they could bring it back for a prize. Optional, but maybe worth it! Click HERE for the pages you need (check your child’s binder, because some of them have what they need already), print, and cut and paste. The blue paper that some went home with can be used to make their river, but they can also just use a blue marker if that’s easier. There is also an attachment of what their final product should look like for reference.
2. I also told them another way to get a prize next week was to memorize their Western Europe geography song. If they can sing it and point to the countries along with the song, they can receive a prize. I will also attach a page that can help them to memorize where the countries are, but I hope to use a real map when they sing it to me. Make sure they aren’t just memorizing the numbers! It would be best to use the numbered page for help and then to test them on a real map. Western Europe (song 2, min. 2:45) HERE
3. Finally, we did not get to all of our maps today (too many to do!). If they want to label their last two maps for Ch. 7, they can use that as their way to earn a prize. They can copy the maps in their book (look at the beginning of ch. 7 and the middle of ch. 7 for the maps). They can go all out and label it all and color it, or they can just label the following AND color those spots only.
Ch. 7 map “France – Republic and Empire” – only need to label FRANCE, PRUSSIA, ENGLAND, PARIS
Ch. 7 map “The Second Reich” – only need to label PRUSSIA, AUSTRIA, FRANCE, and the ALSACE-LORRAINE section marked with stripes
**SEE WEEKLY EMAIL FOR ATTACHMENTS
FOR NEXT WEEK (10/6): Regular optional homework will be to read ch. 8 and continue working on the USA Geography songs – songs 25-29, minute 38:18 HERE
