Course Description: Designed for high school students and using the Learn to Write the Novel Way curriculum, this is a course to help students advance their writing skills, both academically and creatively. We cover academic grammatical concepts but learn how to bend them within the context of fiction. This course aims for students to develop critical thinking, reading, and writing skills as they complete a novel by the end of the school year. They will draft, edit, rewrite, and complete an original story in the genre of their choosing. Students will receive edits from the instructor, as well as learn how to self-edit, and how to respectfully and constructively critique their peers. For students who complete their novels, they will also have a chance to design a book cover at the end of the year.

Required Materials:
Each student must have his/her own laptop.
Pens, pencils, and a red pen for corrections
A spiral notebook
Index cards, preferably colored
