Today in class, we corrected the study guide for Module 7, and began going over Module 9 covering the classification of species and discussing the divisions for Archaea, Bacteria and Eukarya.

 You will research the following and write an essay (300 words minimum), along with a poster or slide show.  If you opt to do a slide show, you will need to bring your tablet or computer to be able to connect it to the TV at school to share it with the class.

 1)What does evolution teach?

2)What were Darwin’s theory on evolution?

3) What does the Bible say about evolution (creationism vs evolution)

4)What is macroevolution and microevolution?

5)Any other information or facts that you would like to share regarding evolution

 You can use your textbook, online sources and/or other books to conduct your research.  Please include a bibliography at the end of your essay.

Today in class, the kids took the Module 6 test, and we began Module 7 discussing genetics.  The kids had a chance to experiment using Punnet squares to determine traits.

Today in class we finished Module 6 covering mitosis and meiosis, we corrected the study guide and studied for a test on Module 6 for next week.  There is a ZOOM review on Thursday, November 13, at 1:00 pm.  The zoom link will be included in the  weekly email to the parents.

I will be including the 2 videos that I showed in class today in my weekly email to the parents.

Please remember that all homework needs to be turned at the beginning of class.  I DO NOT take homework emailed to me after class.  If your homework is not physically with you at the beginning of class, it is late!  Bring it in for the next class to obtain partial credit

Today in class, the kids took their tests for Module 5, we performed Experiment 6.1 extracting DNA from dried peas, and we talked about transcription and translation in protein synthesis.

Today in class, the kids took their test for Module 4.  We finished covering Module 5 in class, corrected the Study Guide for Module 5, and reviewed for a test next week.  The kids received a flashcard in class where they can write any notes that they wish on one side of the flashcard and bring it with them next week to use as an aid to the test.

We finished class by introducing Module 6 taking about DNA replication.

I will have a ZOOM. review tomorrow at 1 pm.  You will use the same link emailed to parents in my email from last week.  It will be included again in the email to the parents this week.

We corrected our study guide for Module 4 and studied for a test that we will have next week.  I will have a zoom review session for whoever would like to join tomorrow, Thursday, October 23, from 1 to 1:45 p.m.  The link for the zoom meeting has been included in the weekly letter emailed to the parents this afternoon
In class today, we also talked about ATP, photosynthesis, and the beginning of cellular respiration.

Today in class, we finished covering Module 3, corrected the study guide and reviewed for the test for Module 3 that we will have next week.  We also began Module 4 discussing cells, and will continue next week covering the different organelles in the cell and perform an experiment in class.  The students have been assigned to perform an experiment at home (Experiment 4.2), which needs to be started tomorrow (Thursday, October 9) so the different steps for the experiment can be performed because it will take a few days of recording results.  I have instructed them to report their results in the lab report in the Results section by including a table.

Today in class, the kids took their tests for Module 2, and we talked about the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and phosphorus cycles and watched videos that went along with our teaching.  We also talked about the different biomes that we have in our planet.  Finally we played jeopardy to review what we have learned so far for Module 3.

Today in class we finished covering Module 2 and began Module 3 talking about Ecology.  We also reviewed for the test for Module 2 that we will have next week.

I returned the corrected labs for Experiment 2.1.  The labs need to be corrected according to the instructions given and returned next week for a final grade.

Today in class we discussed what biology is, the limitations of science, and the criteria for life.  I explained how labs will be written in this class and passed out handouts explaining the process.  We ended class by playing a game to review the definitions covered in class today.
