Course Description: This college-prep biology course provides students with a thorough understanding of the relevance of scientific inquiry. Textbook readings are backed by hands-on experiments that take students’ book knowledge and bring it into real-world applications. This course includes: • A strong background in the scientific method so that students are trained for laboratory sciences in other high school science courses, as well as university studies • Weekly Labs will include microscope work, field studies of organisms in their natural habitats, dissections, and more • An emphasis on the vocabulary of biology so that students are properly prepared to have scientific discussions • Introduction to classification, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, ecosystems, and much more. Students should expect to work on assignments each week for 4 – 6 hours.
