Course Description: This class is a college-prep course which provides the students with a thorough understanding of the relevance of scientific inquiry. Textbook readings are backed up by hands-on experiments that take students’ book knowledge into real-world applications. This class includes a strong background in the scientific method so that students are trained for laboratory sciences in other high school science courses. We will also have numerous labs, which will teach your students how to use the microscope correctly to view a specimen, field studies of organisms in their natural habitats, specimen dissections, writing labs for experiments, and much more! There will be a heavy emphasis on biology vocabulary, introduction to classification, biochemistry, cellular biology, and much more. Students should expect 5 hours of work weekly, including writing vocabulary flash cards, reading and writing facts, answering OYO questions from reading, completing study guides, and writing laboratory reports. Occasional research projects and performing experiments at home.
