Course Description: This course includes two areas of scientific discovery — Applied Engineering: Studies of God’s Design in Nature and an Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology. Each class will include experiments and activities for hands-on learning.

In the book Discovery of Design, the students will learn the practical side of science. We will explore examples of God’s incredible design in nature and discover how His design has inspired man-made designs for batteries, human organ repair, micro-lenses, automotive engineering, paint, and even credit card security! There are many experiments included that encourage the students to be creative and use their problem-solving skills.

In the Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology books, we will examine the awe-inspiring design of the human body as students study the structure, function, and regulation of the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and nervous systems. Students will discover how their heart and lungs function, the intricacies of the musculoskeletal system, how blood pressure is regulated, the structure of the brain and so much more! Students should expect to work on assignments at home 3 days each week.

Required Materials:
Discovery of Design: Searching Out the Creator’s Secrets by Donald B. DeYoung & Derrik Hobbs. ISBN: 9780890515747
Wonders of the Human Body Volume 1 by Dr. Tommy Mitchell ISBN: 978-1683442776
(This book is a compilation of three books previously titled Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology Volumes 1-3 by the same author. Either choice of books is fine.)

Supplies: Binder with a set of 5 tab dividers, note cards, paper, pens, pencils. I recommend a 2” binder because the students will receive worksheets in each class they will need to keep.
