Course Description: 5-6 Language Arts will focus on writing, literature, vocabulary and grammar. Each week students will read stories about American adventures, medieval knights, make-believe lands, legendary islands, and other fun experiences. Rod & Staff’s English 5 is a solid, comprehensive program that teaches grammar and mechanics. Vocabulary from Classical Roots is a thematically organized vocabulary program that systematically instructs students about Greek and Latin roots. Frontiers in Writing! is a theme-based writing curriculum in which students write about intriguing topics such as Halley’s Comet, the Mona Lisa, the Wild West, and other interesting subjects while they learn to write with the Structure and Style writing method. Students should be expected to work on assignments at home approximately two to four hours each week. Parents will be responsible for editing writing projects, checking grammar homework, and monitoring novel reading and vocabulary homework.
