Course Description: In this class, we will examine Ancient history through the thought-provoking and well-organized BJU Press Heritage Studies 6 curriculum. Through this text we will experience ancient civilizations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. This will only be enhanced with maps, graphs, charts, photographs, and illustrations in the text. The textbook carries the theme of Creation, the Fall, and the Redemption throughout. Your child will not only learn to love history but they will be honing their writing, observational, interpersonal, and critical-thinking skills through map-work, writing exercises, group activities, and public speaking practice. We will learn from countries such as Egypt, India, and Greece, and we will study topics like the Byzantine Empire and the Middle Ages in Europe. Students should expect to spend anywhere from 3-4 hours a week working on any assignments given, which could include: reading, activities from workbook, and projects. Grades are given through specific assignments, at-home projects, in-class participation opportunities, tests, and quizzes. Parental involvement is always encouraged and will be necessary when proctoring tests that must be completed at home.
