Course Description: In this class, we will examine American history through the thought-provoking and well-organized BJU Press Heritage Studies curriculum. We will spend our time thinking critically about historical events using geography, elements of government and economics, and cultural observations, all of this in light of God’s Word. My desire for your child is to be able to view history through a Biblical lens! We will open God’s Word as we move through the textbook together, so as to see God’s opinion on the subject matter. Your child will not only learn to love history but they will be honing their writing, observational, interpersonal, and critical-thinking skills through map-work, writing exercises, group activities, and public speaking practice. A few topics that we will be studying: America’s First People, The Thirteen Colonies, The Civil War, The First World War, Communism and its Effects, The Second World War, and The Rise of the Counterculture. Students should expect to spend anywhere from 3-4 hours a week working on any assignments given, these could include: reading, activities from workbook, and projects. Grades are given through specific assignments, at-home projects, in-class participation opportunities, tests, and quizzes. Parental involvement is always encouraged and will be necessary when proctoring tests that must be completed at home.
